It is worth noting that in 2020 we sadly reported the death of Rush guitarist Neil Peart, who passed away at the age of 67 from a rare form of brain cancer.

Now the Canadian rockers, known for the hit 'Tom Sawyer,' are back on stage.

The original members, bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson, announced a new chapter in their career during the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame event in Cleveland, Ohio.

“It has been over 10 years since Alex and I performed Rush music together with our late friend Neil. This is a huge volume of songs that we have poured our hearts and souls into writing, recording, and performing.”

“Therefore, after everything that happened with the last show, we gave it serious thought and decided that we really miss this and it's time to celebrate 50 years of RUSH music.”

He also noted that the new lineup will feature German drummer Anika Nilles, who has just turned 42.

“Among other surprises, we have met an outstanding person; an incredible drummer and musician, who will add a new chapter to our story.”

“Her name is Anika Nilles, and we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome her to our loyal RUSH fanbase, which we know will give her every chance to fulfill this nearly impossible role.”

Anika Nilles gained popularity through her YouTube channel, starting her career in 2010.

ENDURING STATUS

After Neil's death, the band made a sad statement for the fans.

“With great sadness, we are forced to announce that on Tuesday our friend, soul brother, and companion Neil passed away after a long three-year battle with brain cancer.”

Many well-known musicians expressed their condolences, including Kiss frontman Gene Simmons, who noted on Twitter:

“My thoughts and prayers are with Peart's family, fans, and friends. Neil was a kind man.”

Neil was the main songwriter for the band and the author of many books. He started playing drums at age 13 and became the youngest member of the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1983.

He is also considered one of the most quoted drummers in the world.

The band announced their breakup in 2018 after Neil's death.
