Investigation into Liam Payne's death delayed: police are still reviewing 800 hours of video

According to The Sun: A large amount of evidence, including 800 hours of surveillance video, laptops, and mobile phones, is critical to the investigation into the circumstances of Liam Payne's death.

However, most of the materials are still being analyzed by Argentine police, as the first anniversary of the tragic pop star's death, who fell from the balcony of a hotel, approaches.

Argentine waiter Brian Nahuel Paiz has been accused of supplying drugs to Liam

Research by The Sun on Sunday in Buenos Aires, where the former One Direction singer died on October 16, 2024, revealed that court dates for two suspects accused of supplying drugs have yet to be established.

A source in the Argentine capital told The Sun on Sunday: “The police are still reviewing Liam’s laptop and the mobile phones of people connected to the investigation. This is very frustrating, as the likelihood of a trial seems quite remote, and it feels like the investigation is dragging on.”

It has also been revealed that one of the suspected’s phones, which was used to contact 31-year-old Liam days before his death while at the CasaSur Palermo hotel, was confiscated in November, but the police didn't check it until March.

It is clear that we need to review a large amount of materials, such as 800 hours of CCTV footage, mobile phones, and Liam's laptop

Waiter Brian Nahuel Paiz, 25, and former hotel worker Ezekiel David Pereira, 22, could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of drug-related offenses.

Both suspects have been in custody in Buenos Aires since January.

The source added: “So far, four judges have reviewed the case materials, which have been returned for further work and investigation.”

“The last prosecutor reviewed the case in September, and now it has returned to the original judge, who is rethinking the evidence.”

Liam's family in the UK still hopes that the two suspects can be brought to justice.

The singer's ex-girlfriend, Cheryl Tweedy, who is the mother of his eight-year-old son Bear, is also receiving updates on the case's progress.

Meanwhile, Paiz gave an interview to The Sun on Sunday from his cell, acknowledging that he used drugs with the star but insisted he did not supply them.

Court documents suggest that he is accused of selling cocaine to Liam twice on October 14 — two days before his death.

He said: “This is the first anniversary of Liam's death, so I started to remember all the memories.

“I'm so sad about what happened, and I feel sympathy for his family, who must be going through a very hard time.”

I did not sell drugs to Liam. I did not receive any money from him.

“I wish he had not died and everything was different. I used to feel remorse over what happened, but in reality, I do not regret meeting him, as he was my idol, and I was a big fan of his.”

An autopsy confirmed that Liam died from multiple trauma as well as internal and external bleeding after falling from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room.

A toxicology report found traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system, which could have significantly worsened his condition.

Paiz, who met Liam while working as a waiter in a Buenos Aires restaurant, emphasized: “I did not sell drugs to Liam. I did not receive any money from him.”

“I hope that the text messages that the police still need to review will confirm this.”

He also added: “I felt very sad after he died, so I went to the memorial that was near the hotel to honor his memory.”

His emotional mother, Sandra Paiz, who lives in a single room in a working-class area 20 miles from Buenos Aires, is convinced that the police are not doing enough.

She said: “I know my son did a bad thing by using drugs, but he did not sell them.

“I just want there to be a trial so we can see all the evidence, and everyone can find closure.”

“We all love Liam in our family and mourn deeply for what has happened.”

“He was a good person trying to give advice to my son, who wanted to work in the music production industry.”

Pereira, who worked at the CasaSur Palermo hotel, is suspected of selling cocaine to Liam on October 15 and 16.

Reports suggest he brought drugs to the singer's hotel room after being invited to a party.

Liam arrived in Argentina with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy for a five-day vacation to see his One Direction mate Niall Horan at a concert.

When Liam continued his trip, Kate returned to the USA three days before his death.

“I know my son did a bad thing by using drugs, but he did not sell them,” says the waiter’s mother.

Liam is believed to have subsequently succumbed to alcohol and drugs.

After reports of him being kicked out of Palacio Duhau — Park Hyatt for 'disturbing the peace and bothering other guests', he moved to CasaSur Palermo.

Witnesses claim he was 'behaving badly' just hours before his death, and video footage from security cameras showed staff carrying him from the hotel lobby to his room.

In a blurry photo, which may be the last shot of the singer, he appears disheveled in a white tank top.

Other guests complained at the front desk that they heard loud and 'violent' noises coming from his room.

Argentine officials received an urgent call shortly before 5 PM from the hotel manager, stating that the singer was 'on drugs and alcohol' and 'destroying an entire room'.

He expressed concerns that Liam might harm himself.

Within minutes of hearing a loud thud from the courtyard, where Liam's body was found, the manager called emergency services again.

The police later found drug paraphernalia in the singer's room, including foil wrappers, white powder, a pill bottle, and a lighter.

The TV also appeared to be broken, and other items and furniture were scattered across the room.

MY TEARS AT THE MEMORIAL FOR MY IDOL

Outside CasaSur Palermo, there are numerous letters and brochures.

They surround the streets, creating a spontaneous memorial for the most famous and most absent guest of the hotel.

Obviously, Liam Payne touched the hearts of fans worldwide.

Reading their touching notes and messages, I couldn't hold back my tears.

As I entered the lobby of this trendy hotel, I immediately felt the tragedy that unfolded here a year ago.

I stood in the courtyard at the spot where Liam fell to his death at 31, and I was overcome with a sense of chill.

This is the place where the last photo of Liam was taken, and it was a surreal feeling.

I felt a great sadness over the fact that a person of this age, who had experienced so much, is no longer with us.

Liam's death on October 16 last year was deeply felt around the world.

Some staff members I spoke to during my visit to the hotel worked here during his stay.

Behind their smiles, there is probably immense grief over his death.
