Effective Fight Against Dust in Winter: Simple Recipe with Olive Oil and Vinegar

According to ТСН: In January, when we spend most of our time indoors, hiding from the frost, the air in the rooms quickly becomes heavy and stuffy. The main issue during this period is the accumulation of dust, which occurs much faster. Every day, we fill the space with particles of skin, hair, and lint from clothing that settles on surfaces, making the home uncomfortable.

While dusting surfaces seems like a simple task, if they are not cleaned thoroughly, the dust returns very quickly.

An expert from the cleaning company 'That's Clean Maids' shared a method for dust cleaning and explained how to reduce its accumulation using a solution of olive oil, vinegar, and lemon essential oil.

'Dry dusting, especially with feather dusters instead of a cloth, is the wrong approach. For effective cleaning, you need the 'right chemistry.' If you don't, dirt and dust will reappear within minutes after you wipe them away,' the specialist explained.

Home shelves quickly become coated with dust due to static electricity that attracts particles from the air. The winter season and heating devices make the air particularly dry, exacerbating this problem.

This can be tackled using simple natural remedies:

  • Olive oil has an anti-static effect, creating a thin moist film on the surface that repels dust.

  • Vinegar effectively dissolves dirt and neutralizes the static charge that causes the problem.

  • Lemon essential oil contains d-limonene, which dissolves sticky residues and has antibacterial properties, ensuring disinfection.

How to Make a Dust Surface Cleaning Solution

To prepare the solution, you will need:

  • one liter of water;

  • 60 ml of white vinegar;

  • two tablespoons of olive oil;

  • 10 drops of lemon essential oil.

Mix all the ingredients and pour into an empty spray bottle. Close the nozzle and shake well.

It is important to note that lemon essential oil can be hazardous to pets. Therefore, if you have animals, it is better not to use this ingredient and to check any essential oils before using them in the home.

After preparing the solution, remove all items (books, plants) from the surfaces and set them aside. Spray a sufficient amount of the solution on the surface and wipe it with a microfiber cloth.

This solution can be used for cleaning sills and other surfaces in the home, but it is not recommended to apply it on radiators, as the oil can ignite when heated, creating a fire hazard.

This method will help maintain cleanliness in the home for several weeks or even a month. The duration of the effect depends on the intensity of heating use and the presence of pets.

In conclusion, using natural cleaning agents not only effectively fights dust but also maintains a healthy atmosphere in the home. With simple ingredients that you probably already have on your kitchen shelf, you can easily create an effective cleaning solution that will allow you to enjoy cleanliness throughout the winter months.
