Alyona Alyona on the rules of Suspilne: Why they didn’t let the backing vocalist participate in Eurovision
Bronze medalist of Eurovision-2024 (together with Jerry Heil), singer Alyona Alyona talked about some restrictions related to her collaboration with 'Suspilne', which organizes the song contest in Ukraine. This information was reported by 'Glavkom'.

According to inkorr.com: Alyona Alyona noted that while preparing for her participation in Eurovision-2024, she and Jerry Heil tried to involve a talented backing vocalist in their team. However, they were denied because this girl participated in the 'Children's New Wave' contest in 2014, which took place in the occupied territory of Yalta. During her participation, the girl represented Ukraine, was a minor, and all decisions at that time were made by her parents.

“And it’s very strange because she has grown up, sings in Ukrainian, and since coming of age, she has not traveled anywhere or performed at such events. However, she was not allowed (to be included in Eurovision-2024. - 'Glavkom'),” emphasized Alyona Savrankenko (the real name of the rapper).

Attempt to change the rules of the National Selection for Eurovision

The singer officially appealed to 'Suspilne' with a letter and submitted an application for participation in the National Selection. According to the current rules, she and other artists who performed in Russia or in occupied territories since 2014 and in Belarus after February 2024 cannot be part of the Ukrainian delegation. It is likely that 'Suspilne' will not accept the application from Olya Polyakova. This initiative of the performer has sparked widespread discussion in the music industry and society.

The situation with Alyona Alyona opens a new round of discussion regarding the conditions of artists' participation in the National Selection. On one hand, such rules are designed to protect Ukraine's cultural interests; on the other hand, they may hinder young talents from realizing their potential. It is important to find a balance between security and openness to new opportunities in the competitive context of international contests.
