Drone Attack on Moscow Forces Capital's Airports to Halt Operations.
Drone Strike Hits Moscow
According to TSN.ua: On February 22, a drone attack on Moscow led to the temporary suspension of all flight operations at the capital's airports. This incident forced the shutdown of Moscow's major airports, including Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, and Sheremetyevo.
By 4:00 PM local time, airport operations had resumed. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that seven drones were neutralized during the assault. The Russian Federation's Ministry of Defense also stated that 15 drones were detected in the Moscow region, with 11 of them targeting the capital itself. These attacks represent a significant breach of the city's air defenses, which have been on high alert.
Escalating Drone Incidents
This drone strike was not an isolated event. On February 15, Moscow and the surrounding Moscow region also came under attack, with authorities claiming to have shot down 18 unmanned aerial vehicles. The persistent drone threat has created a tense atmosphere, raising concerns among local residents and officials.
The recurring drone attacks on Moscow and its suburbs highlight a growing security threat in the region, likely stemming from the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine and evolving warfare tactics. In response to these challenges, authorities are compelled to strengthen security measures, which will likely further impact the daily lives of residents. Continuous monitoring of the drone situation is becoming a critical component of ensuring safety in the capital and its surrounding areas.
