Ukraine's DTEK Imports U.S. LNG for the First Time via European 'Vertical Corridor'.
DTEK and U.S. LNG Import
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian energy company DTEK has become the first in the country to receive liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States, utilizing the new 'Vertical Corridor' for delivery. The shipment arrived at the Revithoussa terminal in Greece, highlighting Ukraine's deepening energy cooperation with European partners. This milestone is part of a broader effort to secure alternative energy sources and integrate with European markets.
In late 2025, DTEK, led by Rinat Akhmetov, imported this initial batch of American LNG via the Klaipėda terminal in Lithuania. The 'Vertical Gas Corridor' is a multinational EU initiative designed to create a joint transit product and increase diversified gas volumes for Central and Eastern Europe. This successful import demonstrates Europe's commitment to moving away from reliance on unreliable Russian energy resources.
The Significance of LNG Imports for Ukraine
The arrival of U.S. LNG via the 'Vertical Corridor' marks a crucial step for Ukraine in enhancing its energy security and diversifying its supply sources. It underscores Ukraine's strategic goal of integrating into the wider European energy market and reducing dependence on traditional suppliers. Collaboration with European partners through such projects opens new avenues for developing the region's energy infrastructure and bolstering its resilience.
