Ivo Bobul on Ukraine's victories at Eurovision: It was not deserved

According to inkorr.com: People's artist Ivo Bobul expressed his doubts about the legitimacy of Ukraine's victories at Eurovision in 2016 and 2022. This was reported by the 'Glavcom' website, citing the YouTube channel of Slava Dyomin.

“The song, don't take offense, is not a competitive song. Absolutely! Don't take offense, Jamala. I love you, you know. The singer is great, but that was not your song. I understand why it had to be done,” Ivo Bobul stated about the composition 1944.

The artist also commented on the victory of the band Kalush Orchestra in 2022, noting that political circumstances played an important role in the competition. In 2016, Jamala's main competitor was Russian singer Sergey Lazarev, who was supported by Philip Kirkorov, close to the Putin regime. In contrast, in 2022, the global community showed its solidarity with Ukraine.

“Oh, come on, stop it. Guys, let's be reasonable. There are things I like. This is my opinion. Let them be offended or not. But I saw nothing in Kalush Orchestra, absolutely... Sometimes it seemed to me - Ukraine is given some places for, you understand, for what,” Ivo Bobul summarized.

Bobul's change of opinion regarding participation in Eurovision

During the full-scale war, Ivo Bobul considered the possibility of participating in Eurovision and believed in his chances. However, he currently has no intention of even going to the National Selection. The artist has fundamentally changed his position, finding the competition boring and explaining this with examples of modern performances.

“I know I won't take 5-10 place there. So why should I go there, just like that? It's not interesting there. What I watch, I understand - the competition is not what it was before. Now it's made for me in a way that is incomprehensible, absolutely. A guy comes out with a beard, calls himself by a female name. For me, this is not understandable,” the artist noted.

Despite his personal views, Ivo Bobul maintains a place in the music world, recalling his song Diva as one of the biggest hits. He also reminded about the singer Solokha, who is already participating in the National Selection for Eurovision for the fifth time.

Overall, Ivo Bobul emphasized that his doubts about the legitimacy of Ukraine's victories at Eurovision are related to his perception of the modern contest, which he finds boring. The artist has no plans to participate in the National Selection, as modern participants often remain incomprehensible to him.
