According to TSN.ua: Kyiv's reliance on a centralized power grid has experts calling for the installation of approximately 1,500 decentralized generation units. This need is particularly urgent as the city rebuilds its energy infrastructure, a process that will take three to five years for major facilities like the Darnytsia, TEC-5, and TEC-6 combined heat and power plants. For a capital city that has faced severe energy challenges, diversifying its power sources is a critical step toward resilience.

Energy expert Ivan Grygoruk emphasizes that distributed generation should serve as a backup reserve, not a permanent replacement for the centralized system.

He notes that this type of equipment is not designed for continuous operation of 8,000 hours per year, casting doubt on its efficiency as a primary power source. The higher cost of distributed generation is another key factor that must be considered in planning the capital's energy policy.
