SBU uncovered a Russian agent behind arson attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia: the saboteur received 10 years.
According to ТСН: According to the Security Service of Ukraine, a Russian agent, arsonist of important objects of 'Ukrzaliznytsia' in the Zhytomyr region, received a real prison sentence. This former contractor attempted to harm military logistics in northern regions of Ukraine for the benefit of the occupiers.
Detention of the agent
SBU employees discovered a Russian agent who specialized in arson in Zhytomyr region in September 2024. He destroyed relay cabinets of signaling devices on the main lines of 'Ukrzaliznytsia' on behalf of the Russians.
Enemy plans
Through these actions, the enemy attempted to disrupt the logistics of freight transportation by rail through northern Ukraine.
Agent's history
According to the investigation, the 35-year-old contractor, who had left a military unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was hiding in the Berdychiv district. Under the influence of financial gain, he came onto the radar of Russian special services and agreed to carry out tasks against Ukraine.
Initially, he found a relay cabinet, after which he coordinated its destruction with his curator. After purchasing 1.5 liters of gasoline, he rode his bicycle to the scene and set the electrical equipment of the railway on fire.
Law enforcement apprehends
The agent was detained at his home, where he tried to avoid punishment. During the search, a smartphone was seized, on which the man documented his crimes for reporting to the Russians.
Court verdict
The court found the agent guilty of sabotage committed in conspiracy with a group of people during martial law. Considering his cooperation with the investigation, the criminal was sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Also, in Chernihiv, a local resident was punished for attempting to set fire to a volunteer pickup Ford F150 for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the request of Russian curators. This offender was recruited via messenger with a promise of 500 dollars.
The detention of such agents is an important step in Ukraine's fight against enemy attempts to undermine its infrastructure and national security. It underscores the need for vigilance and decisive actions by law enforcement in times of war, as each case can significantly impact the overall situation in the country.
