International Hug Day

According to TSN.ua: To mark International Hug Day on January 21, Ukrainian TV presenter Kateryna Osadcha shared personal family photos, highlighting the vital role of human embrace in our lives. This day is celebrated globally as a reminder of the comfort and connection a simple hug can provide.

Memories of Embraces

Osadcha, who is married to actor Yuriy Horbunov, recalled how Kyiv in May 2022 was defined for her by embraces on the streets. She noted:

'I will remember Kyiv in May 2022 for the rest of my life, when people would approach on the street and simply ask for a hug. In that moment, I realized the power of a hug is about support, about the need to feel you are not alone.' Kateryna Osadcha

The presenter also reflected on the importance of hugs in daily life: 'They say a person needs four hugs a day for survival, and twelve for growth.' She emphasized that hugs can take many forms—from cozy moments with children at bedtime to offering support to a stranger. 'For me, a hug is lying together watching a movie, it's hugging the children before sleep, it's an embrace where you want to pour all the strength of your love,' Osadcha added.

International Hug Day serves as a poignant reminder of the value of human closeness, especially during difficult times. In the context of the ongoing war and social challenges facing Ukraine, such gestures of support and unity carry profound significance. Public reflections from figures like Kateryna Osadcha help draw attention to the critical need for emotional support and mutual understanding in society.
