Odesa Encircled by Defensive Preparations

According to TSN.ua: In response to intensified attacks from the Russian Federation, a comprehensive all-round defense system is being established around Odesa and its region. Colonel Denys Nosikov, head of the 'South' Regional Territorial Defense Forces Command, detailed the training of thousands of volunteers. This defensive build-up includes the construction of anti-tank ditches, traps, and other protective fortifications.

'We are preparing the city and region for all-round defense. It is a very powerful system: anti-tank ditches, various traps and snares. No one will simply walk in here. It will be impossible,' Nosikov stated.

Ukrainian Forces Demonstrate High Effectiveness

Since the start of December 2025, Russia has escalated its assaults on Odesa and its outskirts, including the settlement of Zatoka. However, according to Nosikov, Ukrainian forces are proving highly effective in countering enemy drones. Specifically, they have managed to shoot down up to 80% of Russian UAVs and 70-80% of 'Shahed' drones.

'Currently, we are shooting down 70-80% of the 'Shaheds'. This is very serious effectiveness. I think in the near future we will solve this issue by 99.9%,' the colonel added.

The all-round defense taking shape around Odesa aims to bolster the region's defensive capabilities and ensure the safety of residents under difficult conditions. This protective system is expected to reduce the risks of potential attacks and stabilize the situation in southern Ukraine. Odesa, a historic port city on the Black Sea, has been a frequent target since the war's outset. Given the rising tension in the region, such measures are crucial for maintaining civilian morale and creating conditions for effectively countering external threats.
