Cucumber Prices Surge by 54%, Setting New Records for Greenhouse Vegetables.
Sharp Increase in Greenhouse Cucumber Prices in Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine have risen dramatically due to high demand and limited supply. As a result, wholesale prices for these vegetables are now fluctuating between 135 and 165 hryvnias per kilogram. Compared to early February 2025, the current cost of cucumbers has increased by 54%, causing concern among consumers and retailers. This price spike is part of a broader trend affecting Ukraine's agricultural sector, which has been under significant strain.
In just the last week alone, the price of greenhouse cucumbers has climbed by 12%. This sharp increase is linked to a domestic production shortage, a consequence of reduced sunflower oil output in the country. This disruption has impacted the overall economic situation, making greenhouse vegetables less accessible in the market.
Economic Pressures and Consumer Challenges
Furthermore, energy costs for heating greenhouses in February have reached peak levels, which also contributes to the higher price of cucumbers. Prices for greenhouse vegetables are expected to continue rising until the end of February, potentially leading to new historic highs. Consumers are facing challenges related to the market's volatility, which requires careful monitoring.
"The rise in greenhouse cucumber prices reflects a broader trend in Ukraine's vegetable market," - vegetable market analysts.
Amid economic instability and rising resource costs, consumers may encounter further difficulties in meeting their food needs. This could lead to a necessary adaptation of consumption habits and a search for alternative products, which would, in turn, affect the vegetable market as a whole.
