Sharp Increase in Greenhouse Tomato Prices in Ukraine

According to TSN.ua: Prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine have jumped significantly, rising by 15% due to a drop in supply coupled with steady consumer demand. As of today, these tomatoes are selling on the domestic wholesale market for 110–130 UAH per kilogram. This marks a substantial increase from last week's price range of 90–110 UAH per kg.

This price hike is part of a broader trend, with greenhouse tomatoes now costing 27% more than they did at the start of February 2025. The primary driver behind the increase is a reduction in imports of greenhouse tomatoes from Turkey, which has severely impacted the product's availability on the Ukrainian market. Ukraine often relies on imports to supplement domestic production, especially during certain seasons.

Consumer Outlook and Market Implications

Given the current market conditions of shrinking supply and stable demand, consumers should anticipate further price increases for greenhouse tomatoes in the near future.

This price surge serves as a critical indicator for consumers, who may need to adjust their food budgets. The decline in imports, particularly from Turkey, highlights potential vulnerabilities in supply chains that could eventually affect other product categories. While stable demand and higher prices might incentivize local producers to ramp up their own greenhouse output, it will likely take time before the market sees any resulting price stabilization.
