Skilled Trades in High Demand: Wages Soar for Welders and Metalworkers.
High Demand for Skilled Labor
According to TSN.ua: Employers in Ukraine are actively competing to hire qualified workers, particularly welders and metalworkers, leading to significant wage increases in these trades. This intense competition highlights a growing shortage of such specialists. As labor market expert Maria Abdullina noted,
"Employers are essentially on the hunt for these specialists, pursuing them aggressively."This situation reflects broader trends in a recovering industrial sector where skilled hands are at a premium.
Average Wages Across Ukraine
The national average salary in Ukraine reached nearly 31,000 UAH in December 2025. However, this figure masks considerable regional disparities. The highest average incomes are found in the capital, Kyiv, at 48,000 UAH. It is followed by:
- Luhansk Oblast — 45,160 UAH
- Kyiv Oblast — 31,200 UAH
In contrast, the lowest average salaries, ranging from 22,000 to 23,000 UAH, were recorded in Kirovohrad, Chernivtsi, and Chernihiv oblasts. The wage growth for welders and metalworkers is particularly dynamic, confirming Abdullina's observation:
"Salaries in this segment are growing dynamically."This indicates positive labor market trends where demand for skilled tradespeople is rising alongside their earnings.
The surge in demand for skilled workers like welders and metalworkers is likely connected to post-crisis economic recovery and the development of new industrial projects in Ukraine. This wage growth could incentivize more young people to pursue technical vocations, helping to address the labor shortage. Given the regional pay gaps, it is also crucial to consider opportunities for infrastructure development and job creation in less affluent areas to ensure balanced economic growth.
