Russian Shahed Drones Strike Ukrainian Cities of Kharkiv and Chernihiv.
Ukraine Targeted by Hostile Drone Assault
According to TSN.ua: In the early hours of March 1, 2023, Ukraine came under attack from hostile Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles. The strikes originated from the north and east, specifically targeting the cities of Kharkiv and Chernihiv. These attacks resulted in 17 casualties in the Kyiv region, including four children. One fatality was also reported in the Fastiv district. The use of these Iranian-origin drones has become a frequent tactic in Russia's ongoing campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure and civilian areas.
During the assault, hostile UAVs were observed heading toward Kharkiv from the north, with several drones also detected east of the city in the Kharkiv region. Furthermore, an enemy drone was recorded in the area of the settlement of Mena, moving in the direction of Chernihiv.
An Appeal for Peace
Pope Leo XIV issued a call for peace following the mass attack, emphasizing the urgent need to halt the violence.
This incident represents a continuation of the armed conflict in Ukraine and underscores the precarious security situation in the region. The high number of civilian casualties and the deployment of drones as an offensive weapon point to a concerning escalation in hostilities. The Pope's appeal for peace likely reflects growing international concern over the situation in Ukraine and efforts to engage the global community in seeking a resolution to the conflict.
