Ukraine Targeted in Large-Scale Missile and Drone Barrage
According to TSN.ua: On February 26, 2023, Russia launched a massive combined missile and drone attack across Ukraine. The assault struck multiple cities, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Poltava, and Kryvyi Rih, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to residential buildings and critical infrastructure. This attack is part of a sustained campaign targeting Ukraine's energy and civilian infrastructure. In Kryvyi Rih, two civilians were injured, an 89-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman. In Kharkiv, 14 people were reported wounded, including one child.
The strikes caused significant destruction. In Zaporizhzhia, 19 apartment buildings were damaged. In the Poltava region, local officials reported that 18,209 households were left without electricity. The Russian military employed 420 Shahed-type attack drones and 39 missiles of various types, including 11 ballistic missiles. The attack drones were directed toward the Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Poltava regions, as well as the Black Sea area.
Official Warnings and Condemnation
Vitaliy Dikinych urged residents to exercise caution, stating:
“Air defense is active in the Poltava region. Remain in shelters until the all-clear is given!”Ivan Fedorov, discussing the situation, emphasized:
“Russia continues to terrorize the civilian population, attempting to leave the city without heating during the cold season.”Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed the scale of the assault, noting: “Four hundred and twenty drones, most of them 'Shaheds,' and 39 missiles of various types, including 11 ballistic missiles, were launched at our people.”
This attack underscores the ongoing Russian aggression and its severe impact on the daily lives of Ukrainians. The resulting casualties and damage to homes have heightened public anxiety. Given the scale of these actions, the situation risks further escalation of the conflict and a worsening of the humanitarian crisis in the affected regions.
