Draft Dodgers Caught in Chernivtsi Region Using Fake Ambulance for Escape.
Group of Draft Evaders Apprehended in Chernivtsi Region
According to TSN.ua: Law enforcement in the Chernivtsi region has detained a group of men attempting to evade military service by fleeing to Romania. Their escape plan involved using a counterfeit ambulance to simulate a medical emergency. The scheme was orchestrated by a 43-year-old resident of the Kharkiv region, who charged a total of nearly $50,000 USD to transport five individuals across the border.
Details of the Apprehension
Among those detained, four men were from the Kyiv region and one was from Zaporizhzhia. The organizer's fee for this illegal service ranged from $7,000 to $13,500 per person, indicating the significant sums individuals were willing to pay to illegally exit the country. The driver who transported the evaders now faces criminal charges for his role in the operation.
The arrests were made while the group was in transit. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of military service evasion and illegal border crossing, which have become pressing issues since the imposition of martial law in Ukraine. With the country under a state of war, authorities are intensifying efforts to prevent unlawful departure and maintain border security.
This case reflects increased law enforcement activity targeting conscription evasion during the ongoing conflict. The operation suggests the potential existence of larger, organized criminal networks seeking to profit from the current crisis by facilitating illegal border crossings for a high price.
