Ukraine Pilots 'eReceipt' Program to Send Digital Receipts to Smartphones.
Ukraine's 'eReceipt' Pilot Project
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine has launched a pilot program called 'eReceipt,' a state-backed digital receipt system that allows consumers to receive purchase documentation directly in their banking apps. Announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the initiative aims to simplify business operations in the country, a critical goal during wartime. This move aligns with broader European trends toward digitalizing financial transactions and reducing paper waste.
The 'eReceipt' project is being implemented with four partner banks:
- PrivatBank
- PUMB
- VST Bank
- monobank
Retail chains participating in the testing phase include 'Avrora,' 'Fora,' Auchan, and 'Ukrnafta' gas stations. The financial incentive is clear: printing a single paper receipt costs approximately 7 kopiykas, and in 2022 alone, Ukrainian businesses generated over 9 billion receipts.
We continue to simplify doing business in Ukraine and support entrepreneurs even in wartime. Less paper means fewer unnecessary costs.
Denys Shmyhal
Shmyhal added that for consumers, the digital receipt will be accessible in their banking app immediately after a card payment is made.
In a related support measure, the state also compensates up to 30% of the cost of equipment for autonomous home power supply. The 'eReceipt' project itself is designed to cut costs and increase efficiency in retail transactions, representing a significant step toward improving Ukraine's business climate.
Modernizing Business Processes
The introduction of electronic receipts is part of the Ukrainian government's broader push to modernize business processes and adapt to new economic realities, particularly under the strain of war. This initiative could not only reduce costs for entrepreneurs but also enhance convenience for consumers, a vital factor for economic recovery. A successful rollout of the 'eReceipt' project could lay the groundwork for further reforms in Ukraine's electronic payments sector.
