Ukrainians Struggle to Buy Train Tickets as Ukrzaliznytsia Rolls Out New Summer Schedule.
Train Ticket Crisis in Ukraine: Demand Outstrips Supply
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s summer holiday season has begun, but purchasing train tickets has become nearly impossible. The reason: Russia continues to destroy and damage Ukrzaliznytsia’s rolling stock. As a result, passengers now face major obstacles when trying to buy tickets, especially on popular routes.
Ukrzaliznytsia Introduces New Summer Timetable
A new summer schedule took effect on June 28. Key details include:
- Tickets for most direct trains go on sale 20 days before departure at 8:00 AM.
- For routes to and from Poland, sales also open 20 days in advance, but at 9:00 AM.
- For transit services, tickets become available just 10 to 1 day before departure.
The situation has sparked frustration among travelers racing to secure seats. One passenger shared her experience:
'Dear community, how do you even manage to buy train tickets? Sales opened at 8:45 today and everything was already sold out.'
This highlights the intense demand against a backdrop of limited supply. Ukrzaliznytsia has promised to add more trains to the summer schedule by the end of June, which may partially ease the ticket crunch. For now, however, passengers are left waiting for a solution to the ongoing availability crisis.
The train ticket shortage in Ukraine reflects not only infrastructure damage from the war but also surging travel demand during the summer months. With Ukrzaliznytsia operating under constraints due to war-related damage, passengers may need to explore alternative travel options or brace for long waits. While the addition of new routes could help, whether it will fully resolve the problem remains uncertain.
