According to ТСН: A Ukrainian blogger living in Denmark is gaining millions of views simply by opening trash bin lids. His videos show that many products considered 'waste' by Danish supermarkets are actually fresh items. The footage reveals delicacies, vegetables, and pastries that were not sold before their expiration date or due to changes in inventory.

The blogger, known on TikTok as Bohdan Dyvnyy, shares that he moved to Denmark three years ago. In one of his videos, he opens a container by a supermarket and pulls out packaged products one by one, among which are several boxes of tea in good condition, meat in factory packaging with an expiration date until 2026, and other items discarded due to dented or torn packaging. According to Bohdan, some food might have ended up in the trash due to freezer defrosting or strict storage rules.

'The day turned out to be successful,' he comments off-screen, genuinely surprised that products in such condition were sent to the trash container.

How it all started

Bohdan admits that his first experience was not accidental.

'It wasn't a coincidence, and initially, it wasn't my idea. I don't know who started this trend, but when I arrived at the second refugee camp, I spoke with young guys around 25-30 years old who showed me these spots. Although we were given money, it was interesting to see it with my own eyes, as it's hard to believe such things could actually happen. I saw that there was nothing wrong with it,' says the Ukrainian.

The blogger adds that his doubts quickly faded:

'I saw Danes who drove in cars and calmly loaded products. That’s when I realized that this is the norm here.'

'You won't believe what they throw away'

In another video, Bohdan demonstrates a bigger picture. The camera shows an open trash container filled with bread, rolls, desserts, fruits, and vegetables. Among the finds were also grapes, carrots, packaged pastries, sweets, and dairy products. Most of the food looks fresh, without mold or obvious signs of spoilage.

'The only thing that was spoiled was the meat and pizza, otherwise it was perfect,' he noted in his video description.

He talks about the enormous quantities of products that can be found in containers near supermarkets, many of which are still fit for consumption.

The peculiar feature of consumption culture or wastefulness?

According to Bohdan, the reason for such a large amount of discarded food lies in the established consumption culture.

'Here, freshness is heavily promoted. Danes take too much and don't finish everything. If baked goods are not sold by the time the stores close, they are just thrown away. I found boxes of neatly stacked cookies or muffins that could be bought in the store just 10 minutes ago,' shares the blogger.

Comparing Denmark to Ukraine, Bohdan doubts that such a situation could be replicated in Ukraine.

'In Ukraine, almost everything is sold to the last. And I was told that food in bins might be doused with bleach or other substances,' he adds.

Bohdan also comments on rumors that store employees throw away products to later take them for themselves.

'This is absurd. They can take products before they throw them away. But after, it's no longer allowed, and physically, it's impossible since there’s too much food, it gets thrown away by the ton and constantly,' notes the blogger.

Plans for the future

Bohdan reports that he had known about such places for a long time but only started creating content recently.

'In three months, I grew from 300 to 5000 followers. When I found several places with good and expensive products, I couldn't hold back and posted a video. It surprised me myself, even though I had already found a lot before,' he recounts.

The audience's interest turned out to be incredibly high, so the blogger plans to further develop his content.

'I want to gather an audience, but not just stop at findings. I have many ideas. Soon I will also open a YouTube channel. You just have to see how my ideas will come to life,' Bohdan noted.

Let us remind you, the man dug up the backyard of his house and found a treasure among the trash.
