Zelenskyy's Plan to Revitalize Rural Ukraine: Incentives for Living on the Land.
President's Pledges for Rural Development
According to TSN.ua: In social media statements, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has pledged to bring people back to the nation's villages by ensuring decent living conditions and fostering private sector growth. He emphasized that the state must provide better conditions for business to make rural life more appealing.
Zelenskyy specifically pointed to existing, more favorable credit programs for rural areas, which the government plans to expand. The President believes this will help create new jobs and draw people back to villages. However, he also identified a core obstacle: a shortage of skilled personnel that must be addressed for these territories to develop.
The Potential of the Agrarian Sector
Zelenskyy highlighted that, despite the war, Ukraine's harvest has grown compared to pre-war levels, demonstrating the potential of the agricultural sector.
“The country was once called an agrarian state, so it's clear there is plenty to do in the villages,” the President noted. He stressed that proper infrastructure is essential for villages to become attractive places to live.
“For there to be life in a village, there must be infrastructure,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
Furthermore, he assured that villages will remain relevant, requiring only a little more time.
“The village will be relevant. We just need a little time,” the President said.Volodymyr Zelenskyy also underscored the importance of specific programs and subsidies for developing rural production, which could be another step toward bringing people back to the land.
These pledges reflect attempts to address rural-to-urban migration, a problem exacerbated by the ongoing war. For a global audience, it's important to note that Ukraine's agricultural sector is a cornerstone of its economy and global food security. Increased investment in agriculture, job creation, and infrastructure improvements could be crucial factors for stabilizing the rural population. These steps may not only reduce the labor shortage but also strengthen a sector of strategic importance to Ukraine's economy.
