Kier Starmer, the head of the British government, will meet with EU leaders on May 19 at a summit dedicated to Brexit issues to discuss his plans to improve relations with the European Union.

President of the European Council Antonio Costa stated that the summit will focus on developing the closest possible relations between Britain and the EU that can be built together.

'Today we talked about defense and security, but the United Kingdom and the European Union want to do more together,' Costa told reporters.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen also confirmed that the summit will take place in May and will be held in Britain.

Von der Leyen stated that London and Brussels will discuss the framework and format of deepened cooperation in security and other topics at a joint defense summit in the UK in May.

Starmer's government has decided to 'reset' relations with the EU, which have been strained under the previous British government.

The May summit will aim to clarify the details of the reset of relations, which has so far been characterized by positive statements but has lacked political specifics.

The format of the summit and the participation of EU member states have not yet been confirmed.
