Putin adjusted the conditions for ending the war with Ukraine.
Putin has put forward new conditions for peaceful settlement with Ukraine
The Russian President Vladimir Putin announced adjusted conditions for a peaceful settlement of the conflict with Ukraine, which correspond to the proposals of former US President Donald Trump's advisers.
In his new statement, Putin did not specify the borders claimed by Russia, thus changing his previous rhetoric, the Agency reports.
"The border of Ukraine should pass according to the decisions of the residents of the territories considered our historical territories. Everything depends on the development of events taking place," Putin said, adding that four regions have turned to Russia for help.
This statement differs from his previous position, when he proposed the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions to their administrative borders, and also demanded Kyiv to abandon the plan of joining NATO.
In his speech, Putin confirmed that Ukraine's neutral status is a key condition for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
According to articles in The Wall Street Journal, Trump's proposals also include freezing the current front line and stopping negotiations on Ukraine's joining NATO.
Putin also stated his readiness for talks with Trump during his speech at the Valdai Club.
