Shinzō Abe - Japanese statesman and politician, 90th Prime Minister of Japan from 2006-2007, 96th Prime Minister of Japan from December 26, 2012, to September 16, 2020, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan. The youngest Prime Minister in the history of the country and the first Japanese Prime Minister born after World War II.

Place of Birth and Education. He was born into a political family on September 21, 1954, in Nagato, Japan. He comes from a well-known political family. His maternal grandfather, Nobusuke Kishi, was a former Prime Minister of the country. His father, Shinataro Abe, was the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

In 1977, Shinzō Abe graduated with a degree in political science from the law faculty of Seikei University. He then moved to the USA and studied at the University of Southern California from 1978 to 1979. In 1979, he returned to Japan and worked for three years at a steel company called Kobe Steel.

Political Career. In 1982, he began his political career as secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (his father, Shinataro Abe). Member of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan. In 1993, he was elected to the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament from Yamaguchi Prefecture. Since 2000, Abe has worked in the Mori and Koizumi governments. From 2003 to 2004, he was Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan. In October 2005, he became Cabinet Secretary. Abe gained wide national support due to his tough stance against North Korea, which secured him victory in the elections for the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan and paved the way for the formation of his own government. On August 28, 2020, Shinzō Abe resigned as Prime Minister due to his health condition.

Assassination Attempt and Death. On July 8, 2022, an assassination attempt on Shinzō Abe was made in the city of Nara. The politician came to the southwestern part of Honshu Island as part of the election campaign. During a street event, an unknown man shot at him at least twice. Shinzō Abe was taken to the hospital with bleeding and unconscious. The attacker was arrested. Shinzō Abe died after the attack on him.

Family. Shinzō Abe is married. His wife, Akie Abe, comes from a wealthy Japanese family. Akie Abe's father was the former president of Morinaga, one of Japan's largest confectionery companies. The couple has no children.
