Oles Busina

Date of Birth: 13.07.1969
Place of Birth. Education. Born in Kyiv. Oles' parents were descendants of Ukrainian Cossacks and peasants. The father was an officer in the 5th (Ideological) Department of the KGB. The writer's great-grandfather served as an officer in the tsarist army and was dispossessed during the collectivization of the 1930s and sent to build the White Sea-Baltic Canal. In 1992, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv (with a specialization as a 'Teacher of the Russian Language and Literature').
Career. He did not work as a teacher. He worked in various capital city print media: 'Kyiv Gazette', '2000', 'Reader's Friend', 'Guide', 'Natali', 'Ego', 'XXL'.
Since October 2006, he hosted the program 'Teen League' on the Inter TV channel (Ukrainian version of the quiz show 'Brain-Ring').
He led a car column and a blog in the newspaper 'Today', then was appointed editor-in-chief of this publication. In early March 2015, he resigned as editor-in-chief of 'Today' after just three months with the company.
Author of the books 'Vurdalak Taras Shevchenko', 'Bring the Harem Back to Women', 'The Secret History of Ukraine-Russia', 'Angel Taras Shevchenko', 'Revolution in the Swamp'.
In the daytime on April 16, 2015, Oles Busina was shot by masked unknown persons on Degtiarevskaya Street 58 in Kyiv.
Family. He was married and had a daughter.
