Place of Birth. Education.
Born in Kozjatyn, Vinnytsia Oblast. In 1986, he graduated from the Faculty of Cybernetics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (specialty: Economic Cybernetics).
Career.
After graduation, he worked at the Kyiv Radio.
In the mid-1990s, he headed LLC Horda (a subsidiary of Gradobank, led by Viktor Zherditsky).
In 1999, he was appointed to the board of the state joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukraine by the order of the government of Valeriy Pustovoitenko (at the time, Igor Bakai was the chairman of Naftogaz).
In 2000, he was deputy chairman of Naftogaz Ukraine for a few months before being dismissed.
From 2004 to 2008, he served as chairman of the supervisory board of the International Institute for Energy Problems.
From January 2008 to March 2010, he was the first deputy chairman of Naftogaz Ukraine (under Oleh Dubyna).
Since August 2009, he has been a member of the supervisory board of UkrGasBank (after the bank was recapitalized and became state-owned due to the financial crisis).
From May 8, 2014, to December 8, 2015, he served as Deputy Minister of Energy and Deputy Minister for Coal Industry of Ukraine.
Scandals.
In June 2001, he was arrested at Frankfurt Airport for financial matters involving Eastern workers. It reportedly concerned the illegal use of 4 million German Marks, which were granted by the German government as compensation to Ukrainians for forced labor in fascist Germany.
In June 2004, Didenko was sentenced in Germany to four years and three months in prison for aiding Viktor Zherditsky, the head of Gradobank. The defendants appealed the verdict. In December 2004, Didenko was acquitted by a Frankfurt court.
In July 2010, he was arrested in connection with a dispute over 11 billion cubic meters of gas between RosUkrEnergo and Naftogaz Ukraine. Just before Didenko's arrest, the former head of the State Customs Service, Anatoly Makarenko, was detained in the same matter.
A criminal case was initiated by the Security Service of Ukraine for damages to the state due to the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration Court regarding the lawsuit of RosUkrEnergo against Naftogaz Ukraine. This case and the arrests of Didenko and Makarenko were described by the opposition party Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc as a political order and an attempt by the government of Viktor Yanukovych to criticize the previous Ukrainian government (in particular, the former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko).
On September 5, 2011, the Pechersk Court in Kyiv sentenced Didenko to 3 years in prison with a three-year probation. On the same day, the measure of restraint was changed from detention to a travel ban.
Family. Didenko is married and has children.
