Boris Jelzin - first President of the Russian Federation

Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin - the first President of the Russian Federation (1991—1999), simultaneously served as Prime Minister from November 1991 to June 1992. From March to May 1992, he held the position of Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.

Career. In 1955, he was assigned to the Uraltyashtstroy Trust. Later, he worked in the construction of various facilities: foreman, section head, chief engineer of the department. He joined the CPSU in 1961.

In 1963, he was appointed chief engineer and then head of the Sverdlovsk Construction Combination.

In 1968, he switched to party work in the Sverdlovsk District Committee of the CPSU and headed the construction department.

In 1975, he was appointed Secretary of the Sverdlovsk Regional Committee of the CPSU, responsible for the industrial development of the region.

1976-1985 - First Secretary of the Sverdlovsk Regional Committee of the CPSU.

1978-1989 - Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR (Member of the Soviet of the Union). From 1984 to 1985 and from 1986 to 1988, he was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR.

In 1981, he was elected a member of the CPSU Central Committee at the XXVI Party Congress (he held that position until 1990).

In 1981, he took over the construction department of the CPSU Central Committee. In June 1985, he became Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee for construction issues.

From December 1985 to November 1987 - First Secretary of the Moscow City Committee (M3K) of the CPSU.

From November 1987 to 1989 - First Deputy Chairman of the State Builders of the RSFSR.

In March 1989, he was elected People's Deputy of the RSFSR. From June 1989 to December 1990, he was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR. In March 1990, he was elected People's Deputy of the RSFSR.

On May 29, 1990, he was elected Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR.

On June 12, 1991, he was elected as the first President of the Russian Federation by popular vote.

On July 3, 1996, Boris Yeltsin was re-elected as Chairman of the RF.

On December 31, 1999, the President of the RF signed a decree regarding his resignation. Yeltsin was succeeded as President by Vladimir Putin.

Death. On April 23, 2007, he died in the hospital from cardiac arrest caused by progressive heart failure. Buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery.
