Biography of Vitold Fokin

Date of Birth: 25.10.1932

Vitold Pawlowitsch Fokin - Prime Minister of Ukraine (1990-1992). Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 10th and 11th convocations. People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 1st convocation (1991-1994). Member of the Auditing Commission of the CPSU from 1976-1981. Member of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1981-1991. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 11th convocation (1988-1989). People's Deputy of the USSR (1989-1991). Candidate of technical sciences, Doctor.

Place of Birth. Education. Born in Nowonikolajewka, Zaporozhye Oblast, in a teacher's family. In 1954, he graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute with a focus on 'Processing of Raw Material Deposits'.

Career. After graduation, he went to the mines of the Luhansk basin. From August 1954 to August 1963, he was an assistant mine manager and head of the section at the Central-Bokowskaja mine, deputy chief engineer and chief engineer of the mine, head of the mining administration in Borowo-Antrazit (Anthracite).

From August 1963 to September 1971, he was deputy head of the Donbassanthracite combine in Red Weaver, head of the labor collective Pervomasjgul (Pervomaisk), chief engineer of the Voroshilovgradugol combine (Kadiivka), head of the Sverdlovanthracite combine (Sverdlovsk, Luhansk Oblast).

Since 1971, he worked in the State Planning Committee of the USSR. Since 1972 - deputy chairman, since 1987 - chairman of the State Planning Committee of the USSR.

He was Prime Minister during the early years of President Leonid Kravchuk's term. In October 1990, Vitold Fokin was appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Ukraine. In November of the same year, he was officially appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine (he replaced Vitali Masol). On September 30, 1992, he resigned. The new Prime Minister of Ukraine became Leonid Kuchma.

1991-1994 - People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 1st convocation. Non-factional.

On August 3, 2020, the Head of the President's Office Vladimir Zelensky, Andriy Yermak, proposed Vitold Fokin to become a member of the Ukrainian delegation in the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbass. On August 18, Vladimir Zelensky appointed Vitold Fokin as the first deputy head of the delegation in the TCG.

On September 30, 2020, Fokin was removed from the TCG by order of President Vladimir Zelensky.

Awards. Awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the 'Badge of Honor'.

Family. Married. He has a son and a daughter. Granddaughter Masha Fokin - singer.
