Vitali Masol

Date of Birth: 14.11.1928

Place of Birth, Education. Born in Olyschiwka, Chernihiv District, Chernihiv Oblast, in a family of teachers. In 1951, he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Specialization: Mechanical Engineering).

Career. He worked at the New Kramatorsk Machine-Building Plant as an assistant to the master, master, head of the technical development office. From 1951, he was the deputy director, chief mechanic, deputy chief engineer, and from 1963 the plant director.

From 1971, he was the General Director of the Production Association of Kramatorsk Heavy Industry Plants.

From 1972, he was the First Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Committee of the USSR.

From January 1979, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and head of the State Planning Committee of the USSR.

In July 1987, he was appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. He worked in this position during the difficult transitional period of the socio-political system, the crisis, and the collapse of the unified Soviet economic complex. On October 23, 1990, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine accepted the resignation of V. Masol.

1990-1994 - Member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the I convocation. Member of the Budget, Finance, and Price Planning Committee of the Verkhovna Rada.

At the suggestion of President Leonid Kravchuk, he was appointed Prime Minister by the Parliament of Ukraine on June 16, 1994 (replacing Yefim Svjagilsky). He resigned in March 1995 under President Leonid Kuchma. His successor as Prime Minister of Ukraine was Yevhen Marchuk.

1994-1998 - Member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the II convocation. Member of the Budget, Finance, and Price Planning Committee of the Verkhovna Rada.

Awards. Awarded the Order of Lenin (1966, 1986), the Order of the October Revolution (1971), the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1978), the Badge of Honor (1960), the Order of Merit III class (1997), and the Order of Prince Vladimir V class (1998).

Family. Wife Nina, son Igor.

Death. On September 21, 2018, Vitali Masol passed away at the age of 89.
