Vera Nanivska

Date of Birth: 19.03.1945
Place of Birth. Education. Born on March 19, 1945, in Ljubatschow, Poland.
After graduating in 1966 from I. Franko Lviv National University (Faculty of Romance Philology), she completed her PhD studies at the Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1979.
Recognized expert in public management issues and reform of political institutions, ideologist of 'institutional desocialization'.
Career. In 1978, she defended her thesis at the Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR on the modernization process of Japan.
From 1992 to 1997, she worked as the head of program planning at the World Bank office in Ukraine.
From 1997 to 2006, she was the director of the International Center for Perspective Studies in Kyiv. She actively engaged in issues of democratization of state institutions and modernization of the Ukrainian economy.
From June 2006 to February 2009, she served as the president of the National Academy of Public Management under the President of Ukraine (she was appointed and dismissed by decrees of President Viktor Yushchenko).
In September 2009, she became the head of the analysis and research center of the Institute for Urban Research in Lviv.
Since April 2010, she has been the director of the International Center for Perspective Studies.
In 2010, she ranked 96th in the list of '100 most influential women in Ukraine' by 'Focus' magazine.
Since 2018, she has been the head and Chair of the Advisory Board of the analytical center 'College of Anna Jaroslawna - East'.
Specialization. Societal transformations, experiences of Japan and France in state modernization, institutional transformations and self-governance, issues of the institutionally unreformed executive, European standards in the fight against corruption.
Awards. Awarded the Order of 'For Merit' III degree (2009).
Family Ties. Widow. One son.
