Leonid Novokhatko

Date of Birth: 01.11.1954

Leonid Mikhailovich Novokhatko - Minister of Culture of Ukraine (2013-2014). Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Honored Scientist of Ukraine. Was a member of the Party of Regions and headed the Kyiv city organization of the party.

Place of Birth. Education. Born in the village of Wechernyky, Pyriatyn District, Poltava Oblast. Graduated from the Poltava State Pedagogical Institute (1975), and completed his postgraduate studies and doctorate at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Career. Started teaching history at a village school in 1975. After military service, he returned to the institute as a lecturer.

From 1979 to 1987, he studied in the postgraduate program at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and worked as an assistant and lecturer. Later, he worked in the bodies of the Communist Party of Ukraine.

In 1993, he became the head of the sector for relations with public associations, deputy head of the Main Department for Information and Relations with the Press and the Public in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

In 1994, he became the head of the Department for Humanitarian Policy of the Administration of the President of Ukraine.

From 1996 - deputy, first deputy Minister of Culture and Arts of Ukraine.

From 2005 to 2007, he was the head of the Department at the National University of Culture and Arts of Ukraine in Kyiv.

From 2007 to 2010, he was the first deputy general director of the Ukrainian National Information Agency Ukrinform.

In June 2010, he became the deputy head of the Kyiv city administration under Leonid Chernovetsky, and later the deputy head of the city government under Oleksandr Popov.

On February 5, 2013, he was appointed Minister of Culture of Ukraine by the decree of President Viktor Yanukovych.

On February 27, 2014, he was dismissed from his position as Minister by a decision of the Parliament. He was succeeded in this position by Yevhen Nyshchuk (under Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk).

Since 2016, he has been the head of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at the Faculty of Journalism of the Kyiv Boris Grinchenko University.

Awards. Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Honored Scientist of Ukraine. Awarded the Order for Merit III class.

Family. Married, has a daughter.
