Serhii Odarych

Place of Birth and Education

Mykola Odarych was born in Nizhyn, Chernihiv Oblast. He graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a degree in Mechanics and Mathematics.

Career

In 1989, he began his public-political activities. Until 1995, he worked in the People's Republic of Ukraine. He was the founder and editor-in-chief of the newspaper 'We' and the same-named human rights organization.

He headed the research training center 'Democratic Initiatives'. He founded the analytical fund 'Ukrainian Perspective', which dealt with political science, legal, and community studies.

He was the marketing director at Galician Publishing Contracts, CEO of LLC 'Cherkasy DOC', and president of the Ukrainian-Italian Joint Venture Veneto (owner and chairman of the state-owned enterprise Mykhailo Brodsky). Partner of Brodsky's basketball club 'Cherkasy Monkeys'. Since 2007, he has been the volunteer chairman of the Free Democratic Party (founder and former chairman - Brodsky). In the early 2000s, he was one of the leaders of Brodsky's 'Apple' party. From 2005 to 2006, he was a member of the All-Ukrainian Union 'Motherland'.

From 2006 to 2010, he was the mayor of Cherkasy.

In 2010, he was re-elected as mayor of Cherkasy.

In 2013, he was accused of causing damage to the Cherkasy city treasury amounting to about 600,000 UAH, after which he was suspended from his position as a city councilor in Cherkasy on April 24, 2013. Odarych himself described this as political persecution.

In June 2014

he won the mayoral elections again ahead of time, surpassing his next competitor Anatoliy Bondarenko (Motherland) by almost 20,000 votes.

In 2015

In the next mayoral elections, Odarych received 23.15% of the votes in the first round and took first place. However, in the second round, he lost by a margin of 2000 votes to Anatoliy Bondarenko (Motherland).

Family

Odarych is married. He has a son Andrii and a daughter Nataliia.
