Views. On February 18 2014, during the Euromaidan Wladimir Ogryzko made an open 'appeal to the leaders of Europe and the USA, who are still able to act'. He accused the governments of Western countries of a passive policy of inaction and 'non-interference' in the crimes of the Yanukovych regime against its own people. He also recalled the significant historical 'silence' during the famine of 1932-1933, World War II, and the 'promises' of the political leadership of Ukraine from Western states at the end of the 1980s, 'to remain in' the Soviet Union. He also warned Western leaders against subjecting Ukraine to Moscow. In this case, events in Ukraine could develop into a tougher and bloodier war than the war in former Yugoslavia.
