Biography of William Taylor

William Taylor - American diplomat, United States Ambassador to Ukraine (2006-2009), chargé d'affaires of the United States in Ukraine (June 2019 to January 2020).

Education. Graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and Harvard University.

Career. Confirmed by the Senate as the Ambassador of the United States of America to Ukraine on May 26, 2006.

Until February 2006, William Taylor was the US government's representative in the Quartet led by special envoy James Wolfensohn, coordinating efforts to remove Israel from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The Quartet's special envoy for economic issues.

Before his work in the Quartet, William Taylor was the director of the Office for Iraq Reconstruction (2004-2005) in Baghdad, coordinator for US and international government assistance in Afghanistan in Kabul (2002-2003), embassy liaison for coordinating US government assistance to states of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe in Washington (1992-2002).

Former Deputy Advisor for Defense Issues of the US Mission to NATO in Brussels, he worked in Washington on the staff of Senator Bill Bradley, at the National Defense University, and at the US Department of Energy.

He was once an infantry officer in the US Army, serving in Vietnam and Germany.
