Biography

Date of Birth: 11.09.1947

Place of Birth. Education. Born in the village of Maksymivka, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region. In 1976, he graduated from the Leningrad Higher Professional School of Culture with a specialty as a cultural and educational work organizer-methodologist.

Career. In 1967, he led the folk instrument orchestra at the House of Culture in Volnovakha. In 1969-1978, after serving in the army, he worked as an accompanist at the Gorky mine Palace of Culture in Donetsk, head of the club at the Butivka - Donetsk mine, and director of the Palace of Culture at the Oktyabr mine complex. From 1978 to 1987, he was the head of the culture and sports department of the Donetsk Regional Trade Union of Metallurgists. From 1987 to 1989, he was the director of the Palace of Culture of the Donetsk Metallurgical Plant. In 1989, he was elected secretary of the Donetsk Regional Trade Union of Metallurgists. In May 1994, he became deputy, and in December, head of the Donetsk Regional Council of Trade Unions.

Since 1998, he has been a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. He was usually elected to the Verkhovna Rada on the list of the Communist Party of Ukraine and was a member of the KPU faction. After half a year of his second parliamentary term, he transitioned to the Party of Regions. He was involved in social policy and work in the committee of the Verkhovna Rada. At the same time, he periodically held the position of committee head.

Public Activity. From 1994 to 2002, he headed the Donetsk Regional Department of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. From 1997 to 2002, he was a member of the NOC of Ukraine. From November 2008 to November 2011, he headed the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine.

Awards and Distinctions. Honored Worker of the Social Sphere of Ukraine.

Family. Wife - Liudmyla Khara, born in 1948, retiree. Daughter - Elina Kaliuk (Khara), born in 1968. Son - Oleksandr Khara, born in 1976, diplomat.
