Konstantin Valentinovich Schevago is a Ukrainian businessman and politician. Member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the III, IV, V, VI, VII and VIII convocations, director of Ferrexpo, beneficiary of Finance and Credit Bank.
Place of Birth. Education. Born in the village of Iultin in the Magadan Oblast. He spent his youth in the Zaporizhia Oblast, in the small town of Dniprorudne. In 1996, Schevago graduated from Kyiv National Economic University, Faculty of 'Accounting and Analysis of Foreign Trade'. In 2003, he defended his dissertation 'International Investments and Efficient Economic Development'.
Business. At the age of 19, while in his second year of studies, Schevago took the position of CFO of the Joint Stock Company 'Finance and Credit'. According to one version, Schevago owes his rise to a classmate and later business partner Sergei Tcherepu, whose father, Valeriy, held significant positions in construction and transportation. According to another version, Konstantin's older brother Oleg paved the way into big business, although this is by no means a fact.

Already in 1996, Schevago took over as chairman of the board of directors of the Joint Stock Company 'Finance and Credit' and the position of deputy chairman of the board of the open joint stock company 'Poltava Mining and Processing Plant'. By the way, the first of the scandals associated with his name was precisely about the privatization of the Poltava GPP. In business, Schevago is characterized as quite ruthless. He has not only one litigation (including those initiated against Finance and Credit by the State Property Fund), but he has also been accused of bribing judges and corporate raiding, as well as the death of Mikhail Polyakov, the chairman of the Ministry of Energy of Luhansk (he died of a heart attack after a business meeting with several deputies, among whom, according to media reports, was also Schevago).
The name Schevago and the brand Finance and Credit are associated with about 60 companies and trading structures. Among them - the trading bank Finance and Credit, the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant, the holding company AutoKrAZ, the Stakhanov Wagon Plant, the open joint-stock company 'Galichpharm', Kyivmedpreparaty and others.
Schevago is one of the leaders of the Finance and Credit financial and industrial group and one of the richest Ukrainians. According to the ranking compiled by the magazine Korrespondent in the summer of 2006 , the politician and businessman’s fortune was estimated at $1.9 billion, placing him fifth on the list. In the spring of 2007, Schevago ranked eighth in the list of the richest compatriots according to Focus magazine with a fortune of $1.7 billion.
Schevago, the businessman, had long planned to operate internationally. In the spring of 2009, Schevago entered the board of directors of the largest coal company in Central Europe, New World Resources N.V. (NWR, Netherlands), as a non-executive director.
Konstantin Schevago was the first in Ukraine to bring one of his companies, Ferrexpo, to the main exchange of the London Stock Exchange.
At the end of 2013, Ferrexpo purchased 14.4% of the shares of the metallurgical company Ferrous Resources, which develops deposits in Brazil's Minas Gerais state with total iron ore reserves of 4 billion tons.
Schevago's company controls 15% of the Japanese pellet market. In 2013, the businessman opened an office in Tokyo.
Politics. In March 1998 and in May 2002, Schevago was elected as a deputy of the Ukrainian parliament in one of the electoral districts of the Poltava region. In parliament, he did not stand out for active legislative work or political convictions. Thus, he was in the third parliament of the VR in the factions NDP, Renewal of the Regions, PRP Reform Congress. In the next parliament - European Choice, Ukrainians, PRP. In the 2006 elections, Schevago was elected to parliament in 62nd place on the electoral list of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc. He was a member of the Legal Committee of the VR and the Ukrainian part of the committee for parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union.
In the early parliamentary elections of 2007, he ran again in 62nd place on the list of the BYuT. According to some media reports, he was one of the main sponsors of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc.
From December 2012 to November 2014, Schevago was a deputy of the Ukrainian parliament of the VII convocation and was elected as an independent candidate in the single-member electoral district No. 150 (Poltava region) to parliament. In the early parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2014, he ran again in district No. 150 as an independent candidate, where he won.

Criminal Proceedings. In September 2019, a criminal proceeding was opened against Konstantin Schevago for his possible involvement in the embezzlement of 2.5 billion UAH. The State Bureau of Investigation summoned Schevago for questioning on September 27, 2019. According to the results of the investigation of the deposit insurance funds, Schevago and another top manager of Finance and Credit Bank granted several hopeless loans amounting to almost 5 billion UAH to access the funds.
On October 2, 2019, the Shevchenko Court in Kyiv ordered the recovery of 1.5 billion UAH in favor of the NBU.
On December 3, 2019, Konstantin Schevago was placed on international wanted list and his arrest was approved. On December 13, the Kyiv Appeal Court rejected Schevago's appeal without consideration due to the untimely payment of the court fee, after which the court decision on enforcement came into effect.
On December 26, 2019, the enforcement of 1.54 billion UAH began.
On July 15, 2021, Interpol placed Konstantin Schevago on the international wanted list for embezzlement of $113 million.
On December 27, 2022, Schevago was arrested in Courchevel, France, at the request of the DBR.
On December 29, 2022, a court in Chambery, France, ordered Schevago's extradition. The businessman is suspected of organizing the appropriation of assets of Finance and Credit Bank and the subsequent legalization of illegally obtained money (part 3 of Art. 27, part 5 of Art. 191, part 3 of Art. 209 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code).
On March 30, 2023, the court in Chambery, France, rejected the extradition request from Ukraine for businessman Konstantin Schevago.
On November 10, 2023, the Supreme Court of France rejected Ukraine's appeal and decided that Konstantin Schevago should not be extradited.
Family. Schevago is married. He has a son and a daughter.
