Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek failed a doping test
The world number two Iga Swiatek did not pass the doping test, announced the independent organization for the fight against negative phenomena in tennis (ITIA). The investigation showed that the substance found in the sample was the result of contaminated medication.
The athlete received a one-month suspension. According to the sample, a minimal amount of the banned substance trimetazidine was found in her body. Swiatek proved that the doping entered her body unintentionally.
On September 12, ITIA informed the tennis player about the violation of anti-doping rules, as a result of which she was temporarily banned from sports competitions. This led to her absence at three tournaments: in Seoul, Beijing, and Wuhan. Additionally, Swiatek lost points and prize money that she had for participating in the Cincinnati tournament.
On September 22, Swiatek's appeal was reviewed. She reported the presence of trimetazidine in the sleeping pills she took. The contamination of the medication was confirmed by two laboratories of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
On October 4, Swiatek's temporary suspension from sport was lifted.
In India, athletes refused to participate in weightlifting competitions upon the arrival of the country's anti-doping agency. The championship in the city of Modinagar gathered all 519 athletes, but they were informed about the doping control before the competitions started.
