Thousands of drones and millions on weapons: Lithuania prepares a new military aid package for Ukraine.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė announced plans for military aid to Ukraine on Ukraine's Independence Day, August 24, 2024. She announced this during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish President Andrzej Duda in Kyiv.
Šimonytė stated that Lithuania plans to deliver over 5,000 drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the end of this autumn. Additionally, a new aid package, expected soon, will include air defense systems, missiles, anti-drone equipment, and ammunition.
"Furthermore, we are allocating 35 million euros for the purchase of radar systems and equipment for demining Ukraine's territories," Šimonytė noted.
Šimonytė also emphasized the Lithuanian government's commitment to allocate 0.25% of its GDP annually to aid Ukraine, stating that her government will not only meet this target but exceed it.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to Germany for its support, and Polish President Andrzej Duda discussed the scale of his country's assistance.
