The new Stratus coronavirus strain is rapidly spreading in Kyiv: what is known about the danger

In Kyiv, there has been an increase in cases of infection with the new Stratus strain (SARS-COV 2 XFG). According to the Department of Health of the Kyiv City State Administration, as of August 11, about 100 patients have been hospitalized.

In a live broadcast of the 'Evening.LIVE' program, Acting General Director of the Center for Public Health Oleksii Danylenko talked about the danger of the new strain and the number of infections compared to classic COVID-19.

How many have been affected by Stratus in Ukraine compared to COVID-19

During the past 32nd week, about 1200 cases of COVID-19 were registered. Danylenko noted that this is significantly less than last year when vaccinations were being created.

What are the features of the new Stratus strain

It is claimed that the new strain is a recombinant subvariant of Omicron, and does not lead to severe disease progression.

Do COVID-19 vaccines protect against Stratus and what to do in case of infection

Vaccines against classic COVID-19 are effective against the new strain, however, they require regular updates. Adherence to sanitation measures, handwashing, and avoiding contact with other infected individuals are recommended to prevent infection. At-risk groups include people over 60 and those with weakened immune systems.

In Ukraine, the Nimbus strain has also been identified, which is currently dominant worldwide, while Stratus has been detected in eight regions of the country.

The increase in cases of the new Stratus coronavirus strain in Kyiv confirms the danger of spreading virus variants and the necessity of vaccinating the population to reduce the risk of infection. It is important to consider prevention recommendations and restore safety measures to maintain public health.
