Ukraine begins the winter holidays with Saint Nicholas Day. Traditionally, children receive sweets and gifts from Nicholas.

Since September 1, 2023, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) have switched to the New Julian calendar, requiring the celebration of all fixed holidays 13 days earlier. With this transition, the new date for Saint Nicholas Day has become December 6.
