Europe has the largest number of UNESCO World Heritage sites, of which 231 are listed as natural wonders.
These landmarks attract over 100 million tourists a year, writes Express.
For travelers who prefer less crowded destinations, Emerald Cruises has named some lesser-known places that are just as amazing but with fewer people.
Switzerland can be the perfect country for you to enjoy natural wonders without the crowds.
One of the landmarks is the prehistoric pile dwellings in Switzerland, dating back to 5000 and 500 BC.
These prehistoric ruins are all that remains of Neolithic and Bronze Age communities that built their homes on stilts in marshy areas.
The houses were elevated to protect against floods.
According to UNESCO, the settlements represent a unique group of exceptionally well-preserved and culturally rich archaeological sites.
The second UNESCO gem, also located in Switzerland, is Jungfrau-Aletsch, which offers breathtaking alpine views. This site is an outstanding example of the formation of the High Alps, including the most glaciated part of the mountain range and the largest glacier in Eurasia. The Alps boast a great diversity of ecosystems and also demonstrate the impact of climate change on their glaciers.
Also included in the list of natural beauties to see in Switzerland is the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
Besides Switzerland, Emerald Cruise analysts have listed hidden gems of Europe, including the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park in Portugal, the Jostedalsbreen National Park in Norway, the Spanish national parks of Donana, Picos de Europa, and Teide, the Thingvellir National Park in Iceland, and the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia.
