The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, announced plans to demolish more than 30 apartment buildings that were destroyed by the Russian army. New residential complexes are planned to be built in their place. This step will be the first phase of substantial reconstruction of the most affected areas after the war.

'As of now, over 30 apartment buildings that were destroyed by the Russian army are planned to be demolished in Kharkiv,' Terekhov stated.

According to the city council, since the beginning of the full-scale war, over 4500 residential buildings have been damaged or destroyed in the city. The demolition of these buildings will only be the first step in a large restoration process.

Affected areas and the number of destroyed buildings

The most damage to apartment buildings occurred in the Kyiv and Saltiv districts. In the Saltiv district, damage to 787 buildings has been recorded, while in the Kyiv district, it is 693. The Northern Saltivka area, located on the border of these districts, is considered the most affected. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, 486 buildings were damaged, and in the Industrial district, 366.

The Slobidsky district is also considered one of the most affected. The mayor reported that 225 apartment buildings have been damaged there.

Kharkiv is actively preparing for the restoration of the housing stock destroyed during the war. The city mayor intends to demolish over 30 broken buildings and construct new residential complexes in their place. Residents of the affected areas are promised new living conditions in the rebuilt houses.

These measures will allow not only to restore housing but also to improve the city's infrastructure. The reconstruction will be an important step in the recovery of Kharkiv to restore life in the city after prolonged destruction and trials.
