Medical history and surgery

The medical history began back in May 2023 when a small spot appeared on the skin. The man did not seek medical attention, but when the tumor began to grow and he turned 101, one of the hospitals refused surgical intervention due to high risks. By July 2025, the neoplasm grew to eight centimeters, making intervention necessary.

Surgeon Roman Slipecky from the Lviv Regional Oncology Center decided on surgery under local anesthesia. After removing the tumor and performing facial plastic surgery, histology confirmed the diagnosis of skin cancer. The doctors are confident in a good prognosis from the treatment, and the patient feels well, with pain and bleeding gone.

Age as a factor in surgery

The doctors acknowledged that there is not enough precise data to determine whether the patient is the oldest, but emphasize that in the past, surgeries were performed on patients nearly 100 years old. In Ukraine, more efforts should be made to treat the elderly population, considering biological age as a decisive factor.

In Lviv, doctors successfully performed surgical intervention on a 102-year-old man with skin cancer. This case highlights the importance of considering patients' biological age when treating pathologies, regardless of their chronological age.
