Birthday of the famous Ukrainian opera singer Diana Petrinenko

Today, on February 8, we celebrate the birthday of the famous Ukrainian opera singer Diana Petrinenko, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 89. Let us remember her creative journey and contribution to Ukrainian music.

Diana was born and raised in the village of Bilousivka in the Cherkasy region. After finishing school, she entered the Kyiv Music College and later received a diploma from the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after Tchaikovsky (Kyiv Conservatory).

In Kyiv, Diana met her future husband, Harynaldi Petrinenko, who also studied at the music college. They got married and had a son, Taras. Her husband supported Diana and took on the responsibilities of caring for their son so that she could continue her career. Thanks to his support, she was able to participate in the World Festival of Youth and Students in Vienna, where she won second prize.

Although Diana was invited to the big stage of the Kyiv Opera Theater, she refused and decided to stay in Ukraine. She became a star of the Ukrainian stage and performed in other countries around the world, such as the USA, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, and Finland.

Diana Petrinenko was a soloist of the Kyiv Philharmonic, a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko in 1972, and a People's Artist of the USSR since 1975. She was also known for her performances of opera arias, romances, and folk songs.

After her husband Harynaldi passed away in 1980, Diana continued her career and became a lecturer. She nurtured many talented performers, including her own son, Taras Petrinenko, a renowned singer and composer.

The Ukrainian opera singer Diana Petrinenko died on November 17, 2018, at the age of 89. She is buried at Baikove Cemetery.
