November 30: What absolutely should not be done on the day of St. Andrew the First-Called.
According to ТСН: Tomorrow, November 30, according to the Orthodox calendar, is celebrated as the feast day of St. Andrew the First-Called. Andrew was born in Bethsaida, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee (modern-day Israel), to the family of Jonah and Johanna. He was the brother of the apostle Peter, and together they worked as fishermen. According to tradition, Andrew was initially a disciple of St. John the Baptist and learned about the coming of the Messiah from him.
Andrew became one of the first disciples of Jesus. He brought his brother Peter to Christ. In the Gospel of John (John 1:40–42), it is noted that Andrew was the first to accept Jesus and later spread this news among others. For this, he received the title 'The First-Called' — the one whom Christ called first among the apostles.
Many miracles and healings are attributed to Andrew, including casting out demons and healing the sick. He preached in dangerous conditions, suffering from persecution by local authorities. According to one tradition, he was crucified in Patras (Greece) on a cross in the shape of an X, which later became known as the St. Andrew's Cross.
