The administration of Donald Trump is exploring the possibility of tightening restrictions on the sale of Nvidia Corp. chips to China.

According to Bloomberg sources, negotiations are still in the early stages as the new team is just beginning to define its priorities. Officials are also considering expanding restrictions on the supply of H20 chips, which Nvidia developed specifically for the Chinese market. These chips are a simplified version and were created to comply with existing U.S. export restrictions on technology to China. H20 can be used for the development and deployment of artificial intelligence software, Forbes reports.

The final decision on the restrictions may be delayed as the Trump administration is still forming key departments. Nominee for the position of Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnik stated that a 'very tough' approach will be taken to semiconductor control, but did not provide details.

Nvidia has expressed its readiness to cooperate with the administration in its approach to artificial intelligence. Previously, the company stated that restrictions would only encourage China toward technological independence, which harms American companies and contradicts the goals of trade restrictions.
