According to ТСН: Creating a cozy garden is often associated with significant expenses for paving stones or concrete work. However, comfort can be achieved by using materials that lie directly underfoot. If you want tidy paths that you can walk on safely, even in white sneakers after the rain, consider using garden paths made from ordinary wood chips.

This method helps to avoid dirt and the endless fight against weeds while investing only a few hours of work. Wood chips give the property a special atmosphere: they are soft underfoot, have a pleasant natural scent, and look great among the greenery. In addition to the aesthetic benefits, this surface is practical - in winter, it clings reliably to the frost, allowing snow to be easily removed without damaging the base.

How to Create a Perfect Path Yourself

The process of designing such paths resembles making a multilayer 'cake', where each component plays its role.

  • First, the routes for future walks need to be marked out with stakes. To ensure the path is stable and does not 'float' after rain, a small layer of soil about 5-7 centimeters deep should be removed. This helps create a solid foundation.

  • The next important step is the installation of curbs. It is best to use black plastic edging, as their color is almost invisible against the background of the earth. They should slightly protrude above the ground so that the chips do not spill over the lawn. If plastic is not available, ordinary wooden boards can be used.

  • The key to cleanliness and the absence of weeds is the underlay. Experienced gardeners recommend using cardboard. It should be laid overlapping on the prepared soil, smoothed out, and moistened with water. Cardboard creates a dense barrier that prevents grass from coming through and is environmentally friendly for the soil.

  • The final step is applying the chips. A thick layer of wood about six centimeters thick is applied to the damp cardboard. Over time, the material compresses slightly and forms an elastic and clean surface that drains water well and keeps your feet dry.

Things to Pay Attention To

This solution has its intricacies. Since wood is a natural material, it decomposes slowly, so the paths need a slight refreshment once a year - just refill with a fresh layer. Don't forget that these paths are only intended for pedestrians: they cannot withstand the weight of a car, and walking on them with high heels will be uncomfortable.

However, the result truly justifies the effort. As the experience of many owners shows, this method quickly becomes the preferred solution. Your garden will have a completed look, and you can enjoy walks in any weather while keeping your shoes in pristine condition.
