How to clean oven mitts from grease and dirt

According to ТСН: In the kitchen, oven mitts get dirty quickly as they absorb grease, oil, and sauces. After a week, their appearance may resemble something old, and regular washing doesn’t help. Therefore, the first step is soaking. This allows the grease and dirt to soften, making the washing process much easier and more effective.

You can clean them using two simple products that are always at hand. You don’t need expensive detergents or special chemicals. All you need is kitchen salt and liquid dish soap. The salt penetrates the fibers of the fabric and displaces dirt, while the dish soap dissolves grease residues.

First, prepare warm water — about 40 degrees. Hot water can set stains, so boiling water is not suitable. Add 3 large tablespoons of salt and 2 tablespoons of liquid dish soap to the water. Stir thoroughly until a light foam forms.

Now place the oven mitts in and leave for 20–30 minutes. During this time, the salt and dish soap will actively work in the fibers, dissolving grease and making further washing easier. No scrubbing is needed — the results will be noticeable immediately.

After soaking, the water will become cloudy — this indicates that grease and dirt are coming out of the fabric. You can now quickly rinse the mitts by hand or send them to the washing machine. You will be surprised at how easily even old stains disappear.

This simple method significantly prolongs the life of your oven mitts, keeping them clean and tidy. Regular use of this method will not only ensure a clean appearance in the kitchen but also provide comfort while cooking. By adhering to the principle of cleanliness in the kitchen, you are also taking care of your health, as clean tools are the key to culinary success.
