What Church Holiday is Today According to the New Calendar
Today, believers honor the Memorial Day of St. Aloysius, the Pillar Saint. This saint was born in the late 6th century in Adrianople (Asia Minor). From an early age, he showed a tendency towards prayer and spirituality. After young Aloysius lost his father, his mother raised him, teaching him about spiritual life.
As an adult, Aloysius served under a bishop, distinguishing himself by diligence and piety. He decided to dedicate his life to strict asceticism, climbing a high pillar where he spent many years in prayer, despite all natural dangers. He also built three churches in honor of different saints.
St. Aloysius spent 56 years on the pillar, while the total period of his ascetic life lasted about 67 years.
