What church holiday is tomorrow according to the new calendar

On November 28, believers celebrate the day of the memory of Saint Stephen the New. He lived approximately from 715 to 767 and came from Constantinople. From an early age, he showed piety and desire for monastic life, becoming a spiritual mentor for many.

At the age of 16, Stephen took monastic vows, and later settled on Mount Auxentios, where he underwent a significant spiritual growth under the guidance of wise elders. After the death of his mentor, he was elected as the abbot of the monastery.

His authority grew, and he was respected as a champion who combined the rigor of asceticism with merciful spiritual guidance.

During the time of Emperor Constantine V Copronymus, iconoclasm became particularly harsh, and Stephen defended the icons, asserting that an image is not an idol, but a testimony of the Incarnation and a means of raising thoughts to the prototype.

His popularity caused concern among the authorities, and the imperial administration began looking for reasons to accuse him. Stephen was accused of disobedience and treason.

After numerous interrogations and exiles, he was imprisoned in Constantinople, where he endured numerous tortures, but did not renounce his convictions and did not sign any imperial decrees.

On November 28, 767, Stephen the New was executed: he was stoned to death by order of the officials.
